Description

Some sunscreens protect your skin. This one redefines what protection means.

The Anthelios UV Mune 400 is not just another SPF50+ — it is the first sunscreen in the world to contain Mexoryl 400, an exclusive UV filter developed by La Roche-Posay and BASF that shields against Ultra Long UVA rays reaching up to 400nm. These are the rays that penetrate deepest into the skin, cause DNA damage at the cellular level, and are responsible for premature aging that no other sunscreen fully addresses.

Used daily by French dermatologists, recommended in post-laser and post-procedure protocols, and beloved by beauty editors worldwide — this is the sunscreen that Parisians (and now the entire French Riviera) have quietly trusted for years. The one your dermatologist wishes you could get at home. You can get it here.

Why This Sunscreen Is Unlike Any Other

Most sunscreens — including many excellent ones — protect against UVB rays (sunburn) and standard UVA rays. What they miss is the Ultra Long UVA spectrum (370–400nm): the deepest-penetrating, most insidious part of the UV spectrum, responsible for the kind of invisible, cumulative skin damage that shows up years later as premature wrinkles, pigmentation, and loss of elasticity.

Mexoryl 400 — currently exclusive to La Roche-Posay and unavailable in the United States due to FDA regulatory constraints — is the only approved UV filter that specifically targets this range. Combined with the brand’s established Netlock Technology (a synergistic network of complementary UV filters), the UV Mune 400 delivers what La Roche-Posay calls Ultimate Protection: complete coverage of UVB + UVA + Ultra Long UVA.

🧬

Why can’t you buy this in the US?The FDA has not approved several next-generation UV filters — including Tinosorb S and Mexoryl 400 — that are standard in European sunscreens. This is not because they are unsafe; it is because the US sunscreen approval process has not been updated since 1999. European sunscreens are simply more advanced. This is one of the key reasons international customers seek out French pharmacy sun care.

What It Does for Your Skin

  • ☀️ Ultimate broad-spectrum protection
Full UVB + UVA + Ultra Long UVA coverage up to 400nm — the most comprehensive UV protection currently available in an over-the-counter sunscreen.
  • 🪶 Feather-light, truly invisible texture
Despite its advanced filter system, the formula absorbs in seconds, leaves zero white cast, and feels genuinely weightless on skin — even in the summer heat of the Côte d’Azur.
  • 💧 Water and sand resistant (80 minutes)
EU-certified water resistance for 80 minutes — suitable for beach, swimming, and sport use without needing to reapply every 20 minutes.
  • 👁️ Safe around the eyes
Ophthalmologist-tested, anti-stinging formula — one of the very few SPF50+ products safe to apply close to the eye area and suitable for contact lens wearers.
  • 🌸 Fragrance-free
This version contains no perfume — ideal for sensitive, reactive, and allergy-prone skin. A rare combination with SPF50+.
  • 🔬 Tested on sensitive and reactive skin
Developed under dermatological and ophthalmological supervision on sensitive, reactive, and sun-intolerant skin. Allergy-tested.
  • 🌊 Reef-conscious formula
Free from oxybenzone and octinoxate — the two UV filters most associated with coral reef damage.

The Science, in Plain English

The UV Mune 400 uses a network of six complementary UV filters, each targeting a specific part of the UV spectrum:

Mexoryl 400 (MCE)
Ultra Long UVA (370–400nm)The new-generation, exclusive filter that gives this product its name. Targets the deepest-penetrating UV rays. Not available in the US or most sunscreens globally.

Tinosorb S (Bemotrizinol)
Broad spectrum UVA + UVBOne of the most effective UV filters ever developed. Photostable — it doesn’t degrade in sunlight. Not FDA-approved; exclusive to Europe, Australia and Asia.

Mexoryl XL (Drometrizole Trisiloxane)
UVALa Roche-Posay’s patented oil-soluble UVA filter, developed with L’Oréal Research. Works in synergy with Tinosorb S for complete UVA coverage.

Uvinul A+ (DHHB)
UVANew-generation UVA filter with excellent photostability and minimal skin absorption — meaning it stays on the surface where it can do its protective work.

Uvinul T 150 (Ethylhexyl Triazone)
UVBThe highest photo-stable UVB absorption of any available filter. Delivers powerful, lasting UVB protection without degrading over the course of the day.

Avobenzone
UVAThe globally recognised UVA filter, here stabilised by Tinosorb S to prevent photodegradation — a common weakness of avobenzone in lesser formulas.

The formula also contains Vitamin E (Tocopherol) as an antioxidant to neutralise free radicals generated by UV exposure, and Glycerin for baseline skin hydration.

Who Should Use This?

This is as close to a universal sunscreen as currently exists:

  • All skin tones — zero white cast, no greyish finish on deeper skin tones
  • Oily and combination skin — ultra-light, non-comedogenic, non-greasy finish
  • Sensitive and reactive skin — fragrance-free, allergy-tested, anti-stinging
  • Mature skin concerned with photoaging — the Ultra Long UVA protection directly addresses the UV-driven aging that most SPFs miss
  • Post-procedure skin — recommended by French dermatologists after laser, peels, and other treatments
  • Contact lens wearers — one of the only SPF50+ products specifically tested for this

How to Use It

Apply generously to the face and neck every morning as the final step of your skincare routine, before makeup. Most people apply far too little — a common reason sunscreens underperform. For full SPF50+ protection, use about a teaspoon for the face alone.

Reapply every 2 hours during sun exposure, after swimming, or after sweating. It can be worn alone or under makeup — its light texture layers beautifully under foundation or tinted products.

💡 Pharmacist’s tip from Nice: Apply your UV Mune 400 after serums and moisturiser but before any makeup. Give it 2–3 minutes to fully absorb before applying foundation. On the Côte d’Azur, we wear this 365 days a year — UV rays are just as damaging in winter as in summer.
